![]() One day you find a highway where you can drive however fast you want for as long as you want, you drive 150 km/h+ for an extended period of time and suddenly your car gives out. Usually you drive on roads with a speed limit of 120 km/h or only drive 150 km/h for very short bursts, or the problem hasn’t fully developed yet since the last time you drove 150 km/h, so the problem has never shown up yet. ![]() Over time or due to poor manufacturing/quality control your car has developed an issue where if you drive over 150 km/h for extended period of time it will break. We’d have a huge problem with GPU and CPU roasting viruses otherwise. In order for a game to explicitly toast a GPU by making it run out of spec to blow it up you would need to override the microcontroller’s safeguards, this is not something you do accidentally nor is it feasible with all the isolation in place nowadays. Leaving a benchmark on at 100% usage for a couple hours instead of New World would’ve caused the exact same issue. This happens with pretty much every new graphically demanding game. New World was making the cards work as hard as possible through 100% usage, causing them to expose their shortcomings through hardware defects or poor quality control. “New World” itself was not bricking cards, that’s just not how it works. It will save money on power and your card will live longer.įor those saying it’s impossible for a game to brick your gpu, go Google how New World was bricking EVGA 3090s. Do you really need more than 120fps anywhere? No? Then put in that fps limit… And do it globally in the Nvidia settings, so games that don’t give you settings until after you get past a queue (wtf) kill your cards. put in a frame rate limit!!! Any card that has more than enough power for max settings in a game will burn way hotter than it needs to if it can produce unlimited fps, especially in menus.create alarms for high temps, especially if you can’t see the temps on another monitor while gaming.Monitor your temps with hwinfo or similar. My 3080 doesn’t go over 78☌ in Diablo, but I put custom memory pads on it, which improved temps by 15-20☌… Because the factory pads where absolutely cheap garbage. What they do might be enough for normal conditions, but some of you probably have bad air flow or especially bad cards. You cannot rely on Nvidia or gigabyte&co to really prevent cards from overheating. Good luck everyone! I will be updating this thread in the morning if there are any changes.3080s run hot, 3090s even more and 3080 ti probably are just between the two. A sincere thank you to anyone who uses my code.
